MOOT Where to buy
20 shops carry the herd
All of them in Orange County, each with the aisle printed — the one thing you actually need once you’re standing in the shop. Miles are computed from your ZIP as the crow flies, because a straight line is the only distance a website can honestly claim to know.

Every shop that carries the line, by town. Enter a ZIP and the list re-sorts by distance.

Questions with actual answers
The rule for this list: a question only makes it here if the honest answer could lose us the sale. The rest is marketing wearing a question mark.
Is this vegan?
No, and we won't let a shelf tag say otherwise. No animal is used to make it and none is farmed for it, but the protein is a dairy protein, and most vegan certifications are drawn around the ingredient rather than the animal. If you avoid dairy for animal-welfare reasons this will probably suit you; if you avoid it because you don't eat dairy proteins, it won't.
I'm allergic to milk. Can I drink it?
No. Do not. This contains beta-lactoglobulin, one of the two proteins a milk allergy is usually an allergy to, and it is declared as a milk allergen on every carton. It is chemically the same protein whether a cow made it or a microbe did, and your immune system reads the protein, not the paperwork.
Is it lactose-free?
Yes, genuinely — there is no lactose in it at any point, because lactose is a sugar the cow adds and there is no cow. That is a different thing from a lactose-free dairy milk, which still has the lactose in it and adds an enzyme to break it down.
Will it froth?
Yes. It is whey protein and it steams like dairy — a wet, glossy microfoam at about 140°F, and it will scorch above 160°F exactly as dairy does. It also splits in very acidic coffee the same way skim does. We would rather tell you than have you find out over a $6 flat white.
Is it kosher? Halal?
Kosher: a real version of this company would seek certification, and the authorities who have ruled on this category have treated the protein as pareve rather than dairy — with an emphasis on clear labelling so nobody is misled. Halal: there is no single ruling for this category yet; any halal claim is certifier-specific, and we won't print one we don't hold. We are not going to invent a certificate number for a demonstration page either way.
Why is it more expensive than milk?
Because it is. A gallon of dairy milk is one of the most efficiently produced foods on earth and we are not going to beat it on price this decade; if dairy works for you, keep pouring it. The ledger on the Learn page compares us with the milks you'd actually be choosing between instead — oat, almond, soy — and says plainly where each one wins.
Can I order it online?
Not from us, and this site won't pretend otherwise — there is no checkout on it. The cart here does two things: it costs what you'd buy against what you pour now, and it points you at the nearest shop that stocks it. Twenty shops do, all in Orange County. When that changes, the cart will grow a third button, and not before.
Does it need refrigerating?
Not until it's open. It is aseptically filled, so an unopened carton sits in a cupboard for months; once it's open it behaves like any milk and gets seven to ten days in the fridge.
What happens to the cows?
Nothing, in either direction — we don't have any. The joke on the carton is that the cow has been made redundant, and the honest version of the joke is that a dairy herd doesn't disappear because one brand exists. We are not going to claim we saved animals we never had.

The answer to “will it froth”, photographed rather than asserted.
Talk to a person
(714) 555-0168 rings a phone in Costa Mesa, California during working hours, and hello@mootfoods.example is read by the four of us, usually the same day. If a shop near you should carry the line, that is genuinely the most useful email you can send us — grocers listen to their shoppers long before they listen to a sales rep.
Both are as fictional as the company — the phone number is a reserved 555, and the address is an example domain that cannot receive mail. On a real build these would be yours.
